Borna Sammak: Best Buy
October 8th, 2009. 7-9PM.

Thirteen videos by Borna Sammak will be displayed for one night only in the Best Buy electronics store at 622 Broadway in New York City.

Sammak has created all new work for this site-specific installation which will utilize every television in the store.

To make the work, the artist starts with high-definition video clips -- his own original content, or borrowed -- and meticulously deconstructs their form, movement, and color. The fragments pulled from the clips are then rebuilt into dense, multi-layered time-based compositions. The resulting abstractions are often jarring and always beautiful. Familiar phenomena appear, mashed and violently reconstituted in a new, hi-resolution world; a dancing bird of paradise becomes a digital glitch -- a river explodes.

Sammak's videos are made specifically for high-definition television screens. Best Buy is the largest American retailer of this technology, and the takeover of a corporate store for this exhibition is in line with the object of the videos themselves.

Please join us at Best Buy on October 8th at 7PM for a reception that will take place simultaneously with the exhibition.
